I almost wrote 2019. It will take some getting used to, I suppose.
Outside of my health, which I am trying desperately to get under control, I have been feeding my mind with books. I realized during the Christmas break, that I have never read A Christmas Carol from Charles Dickens. I have watched the movie a 100 times, but I thought, I have that book sitting on my bookshelf, why not read it? Turns out its not that long and only took me a couple of days – Mostly because I was being lazy.
Really, it was just like the movies for the most part. That is not always the case, but for this one it was.
One of my goals is to read more every day and not watch so much TV. I started the year by reading Charles Dickens: The Last of the Great Men by G.K. Chesterton. I am still reading this and I find the writing fascinating. G.K. Chesterton is someone I want to read more this year.
I am also reading The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I thought I would labor through it and just read it to make myself feel smarter, but it has been rather interesting and I almost can’t put it down.
These in addition to my daily scripture reading has created a solid foundation for the year. I am excited to finish the Iliad from Homer that I started last year, along with learning more about Napoleon. It’s amazing what the world opens up to you through reading and I hope to continue to do so. I feel much less stressed than when I watch TV after work.
I am also on a social media fast that I hope to continue into Feb. I really haven’t missed it and I need to get myself right before I can read the drama of others.
Yesterday I went to the gym and walked/ran for a mile in a half. Took about a half hour. I want to be careful because with my new diet I am not sure how my blood sugar levels are going to react. I then drank an H5 collagen protein and ate garlic potatoes for dinner. I weighed in at 235.6.
This morning I was down again to 233 on the dot. In addition to my supplements, I ate Muesli with non-sweetened almond milk. I began to feel a little shaky and ill today, so I ate a salad and I am not going to the gym. Will take my Potassium and Magnesium tonight to make sure I have the electrolytes. I am drinking tons of water.
It is an interesting experiment that I hope pays dividends later.
