Finance and Health Update

July and August have not been good months with regards to finance and health. To recount the last update, our furnace and A/C units gave out and we had to finance $8,000 to purchase units. This added $300 to our monthly expenses and left us with $400 a month for food and gas, $1,000 in savings and $2,000 in our checking with no CC debt outside of the units.

In addition, we had budgeted $1,000 for a week long vacation, and then more things started to break. We went on our trip, but we ended up needed over $1,000 to fix both of our vehicles, which are starting to have problems. Both vehicles are paid for, have over 150,000 miles and have been working fine for us until the last month. The summer heat is getting to them, I suppose. We decided to spend the money as it is cheaper than buying a new car and adding more expenses.

We then had to rent a car for our vacation, as we were not able to take our vehicle. Again, this was a cheaper option than buying new vehicles, as I do believe they still have a few years left in them.

What this all meant was that instead of having $2,000 in checking, we have 0 in checking and a new $2,000 credit card bill that will add another $80 to our monthly totals until we can pay it off. Blah!! Just when we think we are finally going to have some money, life happens and takes away our plans!

The good news is that we at least had some money for these things, and it is not as bad as it could have been. We are at least planning and budgeting, so that we can find the money when we need it. Of course, now school has started and that has added more to our bill, but we planned for that and it did not add to our debt.

As far as weight, I need to get back to doing some type of diet. I have gained back everything I had lost in June and stopped running. Job stress mostly, so I need to get back to basics and will probably try a Vegan diet in Sept. I have done that in the past and it was the healthiest I have ever felt. It is not easy, so I may have a cheat day on Saturday’s, but for the most part I think I can do it with success!
