I have no idea why it has been on my mind to write about non fluoride or fluoride-free toothpaste, but here we are. I have experimented with this toothpaste for coming up on two years now, so I think that is a good enough sample size to write a short post.
Let me be clear, I do not pretend to know the science behind if fluoride is good for you or bad for you or somewhere in-between. I am not an expert and I do not pretend to be one, I can only write about my experience.
About two years ago, I decided I wanted to try toothpaste that did not have fluoride in it. My teeth have been sensitive and I have had to have a few cavities filled here and there, but nothing major. I have also had to have 1 root canal in my life, which was not fun, but I would hardly say it was a crisis in my teeth. Not the best teeth, but certainly not the worst either.
I was told by my dentist that I was going to need another root canal in a year or so, and that did not sound fun, but she said I had some time before it was needed. As long as I stayed on the same trajectory with my teeth it would need to be done. There was not really anything I could do, I was already good at flossing and brushed the normal amount of times per day.
That plus the sensitivity in my teeth is what made me look around for something different. I decided to see if all the articles I had been reading about fluoride were true and try a new toothpaste. I was certain I would hate it and it would not work and I would be back to my normal within a month.
That did not happen and almost two years later I am still using the non fluoride toothpaste and still enjoying the benefits. I should say I have tried this with other products like deodorant without any success. This toothpaste, however has worked for me.
In the two years since using it, I have not had a single cavity, and the dentist said she is not sure why, but the root canal that I needed is, at the moment, no longer needed. I have also had a reduction in my sensitivities, though cold items still cause me some trouble. The toothpaste also tastes great and has great foam when I brush.
The drawback is price, I believe I use about 1 tube a month and currently on amazon it’s around $5.00 a tube – $20 for 4. They also have different flavors – I love the Neem and Pomegranate flavor and the Cinnamon. I have ordered other flavors, but have not tried them yet.
The product is Himalaya Toothpaste and can be found on Amazon at these links:
